All jurisdictions are challenged to ensure an integrated workforce is in place to support patient access to primary care now and in the future, though specific contexts vary. Integrated approaches to planning for workforce needs, and for training and equipping clinicians for team-based primary care delivery are both needed. This work is foundational to advancing access and requires new collaborations and approaches to appropriately support collaborative and integrated team-based care. This session will explore both national initiatives to support training and workforce development, and jurisdiction-specific planning approaches.
Learning Objectives
To provide an overview of the Team Primary Care Interprofessional Collaborative table which brought over 20+ primary care professions together to align training to better foster team-based care.
To describe an integrated primary care workforce planning approach and toolkit developed in the Ontario Health, Toronto region that involves stakeholder engagement and population and health workforce data-based planning.
