Participatory co-design of patient involvement in a Learning Health System: How can data-driven care be patient-driven care?

In this paper by Knowles and colleagues, the concept of a Learning Health System is explored with a focus on active patient involvement, challenging traditional roles of patients as mere data donors. Through participatory co-design workshops, patients proposed three key roles in a patient-driven learning health system, emphasizing the importance of transparency and addressing 'epistemic injustice'. The study advocates for a collaborative approach between patients and health systems, highlighting the need for active partnership to achieve meaningful change within healthcare delivery.
